Sun ray with a small fish - Cyclobatis oligodactylus & Gaudryella gaudryi - 30 x 24,5 cm (specimens 11 cm)
Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian, 100 million years - Haqil, Byblos, Lebanon

Cyclobatis is called Sun – Fish because of its quasi circular shape due to the radial arrangement of the rays of the pectoral fins. These pectoral fins join at the front in perfect circle, and seen dorsally, completely cover the pelvic fins. It has numerous teeth, which are very small with a smooth crown and with a clean slicing carina.
Euriopholis is a midsized fish of slender shape. Head large and broad in dorsal aspect. Eyes large, snout pointed, gape long.
Dorsal fin pointed triangular, in the anterior half of the body. Deeply forked. The caudal dorsal midline and the flanks each carry a row of large bony scales. Euripholis must have been formidable predators as their strong sharp teeth indicate.
