Name: Dapalis macrurus (Agassiz)
Age: Oligocene - Stampien
Origin: Pichovet, Vacherie, Alpes de Haute Provence, France
This is a stunning fish belonging to the perch family, and that lived 35 million years ago, in the south of France. The harvesting site of these fossils has been closed for years, and it has become hard to find any, especially of this quality.
This one is 8.2 cm long, and on a 14 x 9.4 cm panel.
Exceptionally preserved. The vertebrae are all there and well-preserved, when they usually break when the plates are divided.
